Abstract

This study examines the socio-economic dynamics of small tea growers (STGs) in Golaghat District, Assam. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, significant challenges were identified, including restricted financial assistance, barriers to financial inclusion, price volatility, and land ownership issues. Notably, 93% of STGs reported land inheritance, underscoring the prevalence of family-owned tea cultivation. Findings highlight limited access to formal credit institutions and price volatility as persistent concerns. The study underscores the need for targeted policy interventions to enhance land productivity, sustainability, and equitable land distribution. Recommendations include improving credit accessibility, market dynamics, and financial management practices to bolster STGs' socio-economic well-being and tea industry sustainability. The research informs policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders, emphasizing the imperative for supportive strategies to address the complex challenges faced by STGs.
