Abstract

Purpose – Our primary objective is to conduct a systematic bibliometric analysis that elucidates the intellectual structure of workplace happiness research. Using bibliometric tools, we aim to uncover patterns in publication trends, key contributors, and the evolution of thematic emphases over time. This research seeks to summarize existing knowledge and highlight gaps and emerging areas for further investigation.

Design/methodology/approach – Using bibliometric techniques, we examined the state of the field from 2000 to 2023 and assessed the worldwide scientific output of studies on workplace happiness. The R bibliometric package analysed author contributions and publication outputs quantitatively and qualitatively. The final analysis contained a total of 519 relevant papers.

Findings – Valuable findings emerged through extensive examination of highly referenced publications and diverse contributions to workplace well-being investigations from various authors, nations, academic institutions, and publications. Additionally, this research incorporates co-occurrence and cluster analyses to identify significant trends and themes in workplace happiness. Through this comprehensive review, the study not only provides insight into existing research but also illuminates potential future avenues for scholars in the field.

Originality/value – Through this bibliometric inquiry, we aim to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on workplace happiness by offering a nuanced synthesis of existing research. This analysis is expected to inform scholars, practitioners, and organizational leaders about the pivotal dimensions of workplace happiness, facilitating evidence-based decision-making and interventions to foster positive workplace cultures.
