‘MANY OF US ARE ILLITERATES’: UNDERSTANDING CONTRACEPTIVE RIGHT AMONG THE WOMEN OF A TEA-GARDEN IN ASSAM
Abstract
Contraceptive rights mean the right to choose the preferred method of family planning and contraception. This paper attempts to understand contraceptive rights among the women of tea-community considering the opinion of women in context of contraceptive rights. Thus incorporating the narrative of few female respondents included in the study. This paper explores women’s views on contraceptive rights and their self-agreement in the acceptance of the existing social scenario that maintains and reconstructs the ideas prevalent on contraception. It brings into focus the deeply ingrained patriarchal ideas that help to maintain a certain kind of contraceptive belief.
