Abstract

This paper explores the significant impacts of Mahatma Gandhi's socio-economic strategies on tribal empowerment and gender equality in India. Recognizing the interdependence of economic justice and social equality, Gandhi championed initiatives that promoted self-reliance, education, and active participation of marginalized communities in nation-building. His emphasis on cottage industries and local craftsmanship revitalized tribal economies while providing meaningful employment opportunities, particularly for women. The study analyzes historical data reflecting the correlation between Gandhi's strategies and socio-economic improvements in tribal regions, including increased literacy rates and higher income levels. Furthermore, the research highlights Gandhi's transformative influence on gender roles, illustrating how his advocacy for women's participation in economic activities and political representation contributed to challenging entrenched patriarchal norms. By examining the ongoing legacy of Gandhi’s principles in contemporary policies, such as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), this paper underscores the continued relevance of his vision in addressing modern challenges faced by tribal communities and women. Ultimately, this research emphasizes the necessity of inclusive development strategies that honor Gandhi’s ideals of equity and self-reliance, advocating for a future where all individuals have the opportunity to thrive. Through a holistic understanding of Gandhi's impact, this study serves as a call to action for policymakers and social advocates committed to fostering gender equality and tribal empowerment in India.
